I didn’t see the falcon at first. I was feeding the hens as I do every morning and was wondering why they were still all in their house. Only a few came out to get their morning meal, and just as a few more appeared the Roosters warned me of a native falcon flying up to the branch of an old willow only about 30 metres away.

Completely fearless, she waited patiently while I ran inside for my camera, came back and then tried to get close enough for a decent shot. Of course I only had my 24 – 70mm lens on, but she didn’t budge as I climbed through the fence and poked my way closer through the blackberry and fallen branches.

I was able to click away madly until I finally got too close and she flew off. Probably deciding to come back later, and hopefully next time I’ll have my camera with me and a longer lens.
