One of the many questions we get asked when people first approach us, is can they use their own image for a splashback? When we get asked this, we always suggest that the image gets sent to us. We’ll try different techniques to see if we can get a good end result. Technology is wonderful, and we can enlarge images that we previously wouldn’t have been able to.
However all photos aren’t created equal and some are too low in resolution to be able to enlarge successfully. If this is the case then there are several different things we can try.
Can I use my cell phone image for a splashback?
The above photo is of a recent installation in Invercargill. The image was taken on a cell phone and needed to be enlarged a significant amount. The first enlargement didn’t work very well at all and so the image was vectorized, then enlarged and then blended back with the first enlargement to get this pleasing result. This particular image lends itself to being manipulated to get the required result and this technique isn’t always this successful.
When choosing your own image for a splashback always try to get the highest resolution possible. See our image library for various high-resolution images that can be used for splashbacks.
